Kitty of the Mister persuasion

This week, there is some incredible music coming to DC. So tomorrow, wipe off the green dye from your upper lip, listen to this DCDECIBEL Spotify playlist, and get to some of these shows!
We’ll be going to Kimbra & Gotye and Reptar.
And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, Grimes is throwing a show at the Copycat Building in Baltimore on Wednesday.

Sharon Van Etten & Shearwater tonight!

Finally get to see SVE after bungling seeing her at Bonnaroo. YAY.

In terms of Shearwater- not that familiar. However, I saw Will Sheff play with Okkervil River at Freefest in September, and I think he rocks, so I’m sure they will rock too. Plus, look at this vest. That is a power vest.

Tickets are sold out, but I suggest scalping— 9 PM @ Black Cat.

Liberal Arts- Triple Play

Here are three things related to Liberal Arts majors that I have come across in the last two weeks that have made me feel both REALLY good and REALLY bad about my progress as an adult with a B.A. in pychology:

Film- Liberal Arts (w/d/s Josh Radnor, also feat. Elizabeth Olson [who is one of my favorite up and comers after Martha Marcy May Marlene]). It was the last film I saw at Sundance. Both the movie and the Q&A with Josh Radnor were a really great way to end to my experience in Park City. Here’s an interview about the movie.

Song- Liberal Arts by Hospitality. I heard this on the All Songs Considered podcast from this week. It sort of made my morning because it’s a nice summery pop song that made the weather seem nicer and work day go by just a little bit faster.

Book/Essay/Speech- “This is Water” by David Foster Wallace. It’s actually the commencement speech he gave at Kenyon College in 2005, but they made it into a book. I appreciated his honesty about what college actually teaches you, but I think it was most moving because of the inherent eeriness involved in reading anything by DFW. I picked it up after I couldn’t find A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again (which I decided to read via the suggestion of the Slate Culture Gabfest which I’ve been listening to nonstop).

To bring it all back together: The movie Liberal Arts uses Infinite Jest as a plot device, and Josh Radnor talked about his relationship with David in the Q&A. Here is a transcript of the Q&A.
